A locket is a small charm or pendant worn on a chain. The locket opens to reveal a small photo. Lockets are frequently given to a young girl on her sixth, tenth, twelfth and sixteenth birthdays but are great for any birthday. They are also often given to commemorate First Communion or graduation.
Lockets are commonly either yellow or white gold, silver or a combination. A gold locket or silver locket will last for years and is a gift that will be cherished. The most common shapes for a locket for a girl or teen is heart shaped locket but rectangular or oval lockets are also popular. The facing of the locket may be plain or decorated with etchings or design and the back may be engraved with a simple sentiment, prayer or the recipient's first name.
